Annual wellness exams can help us catch problems early. Vaccinations are necessary for disease prevention and public health safety. Professional dental cleaning can improve not only your pet’s oral health, but also his or her overall quality of life, and can cut down on “doggy breath”. Extraction of damaged teeth decreases pain and difficulty eating.

Radiographs:

X-rays are snapshots that can help us diagnose broken bones, intestinal blockage, pneumonia, heart conditions, and some types of cancer. X-rays can also be used to monitor the progress of a patient during a long-term illness.

Bloodwork:

Complete Blood Count (CBC): This tool is used to aid in diagnosing infections, anemia, and other blood disorders. Repeating a CBC can give valuable information about how a disease is progressing or responding to treatment.

Chemistry Panel: Blood chemistries allow us to evaluate the function of the internal organs, and help us diagnose illnesses such as diabetes, hepatitis, and kidney disease.

Thyroid Testing: Hyperthyroidism is a common disease in older cats, while dogs more commonly have decreased thyroid activity. An outside lab can help us diagnose both of these problems.

Adrenal Disease Testing: Dogs can have both too much (hyperadrenocorticism, Cushing’s Disease) or too little (hypoadrenocorticism, Addison’s disease) hormones produced by their adrenal glands. These diseases are both typically evaluated by the same test, which is sent to an outside lab.

Allergy Testing: Dogs and cats can become allergic to things in their environment, just like people! To help us diagnose environmental allergies, we sometimes send a blood sample to a professional lab so that they can find the allergen culprits, and in some cases can design allergy shots tailored to your pet’s specific problem.

Surgical Services:

We perform spays (ovariohysterectomies) and neuters (castrations) on both dogs and cats to help responsible pet owners prevent unwanted puppies and kittens. Spaying or neutering your dog or cat also cuts down on their risk for many kinds of cancers and helps with undesirable behaviors such as marking territory with urine or mounting people or other pets.

For breeders, we perform Caesarian sections when momma has trouble having her litter on her own, and we also dock tails and remove dewclaws from newborns.

Other surgical services include declawing cats, removing masses and performing biopsies (these specimens can be sent to a referral lab for interpretation), removal of intestinal foreign bodies, minor orthopedic procedures, and general soft-tissue surgery.

During surgical procedures, your pet may be monitored with a combination of advanced equipment. This includes pulse oximitryto ensure adequate oxygen in the blood, esophogeal ECG (electrocardiogram) to watch for heart arrhythmias, and blood pressure monitoring to help us adjust our anesthesia.

House Calls:

We understand that not all dogs and cats enjoy car rides, and not all owners are able to get to our practice easily. We offer house calls in the Heber Springs area. Please contact us for more details.

Bathing:

While we are not full service groomers, we do perform the following “salon” services:

Cleansing or medicated baths

Medically necessary shavedowns

Nail trims

*Ear cleaning

*Anal gland draining

*These services are complimentary with every bath, or can be scheduled individually as needed

Referral Services

Patchell Veterinary Clinic, we strive to do what is best for your pet and your family. Sometimes this means sending you to someone who can perform more diagnostic or surgical services than are available with our equipment. We have established good working relationships with a variety of board certified specialists so that your pet’s needs can be met. Referral services include:

•We have a digital radiograph converter so that your pet’s x-rays can be

emailed to other veterinarians, including radiologists and orthopedists, for

evaluation.

•We have Telemedicine capabilities.

•A board certified veterinary internist is available to come to our clinic and

evaluate your pet using tools such as endoscopy and ultrasound.

•Orthopedic procedures such as repair of knee ligaments and complex fracture

repair are referred to a veterinary orthopedic surgeon.

•When advanced diagnostics are necessary, we can refer your pet for a CT

scan in Little Rock.

Other specialists in the region include dermatologists, ophthalmologists, and oncologists. We will work with these practitioners to help you get the best care possible for your pet.

We are your source for high-quality pet products including:

•Science Diet dog and cat food, including prescription diets that help manage

certain diseases and conditions, including food allergies, obesity, diabetes,

kidney disease, and liver disease.

•Medicated shampoos to treat a variety of skin conditions.

•Flea and tick preventative, which is important to use every month to

decrease skin disease and transmission of certain diseases (such as Lyme

disease and Ehrlichiosis) and parasites (tapeworms are caused by ingestion

of infected fleas).

•Heartworm preventative for your dog, which we recommend using year
